Pedigree ABC Agility League Due to the complete dominance of Collies and their various crosses throughout the agility classes, it seems virtually impossible for anyone competing with an ABC dog to achieve or progress much further than Grade 3. This has prompted the idea of an ABC league separate from the current open system where dogs can progress through the classes up to ABC Ch. This system would run along side the open classes and any awards obtained within the ABC system could not be transferable to the open classes. The other problem of second crossed collies, lurchers and Kelpies taking over the ABC system has been addressed by making this new league available to only dogs with KC registered pedigrees. This would give an opportunity for the Kennel Club to promote its own recognized breed in a healthy sport and make it possible for ABCs to take part in a fair competition and give them an opportunity to progress and enjoy their chosen breed. This league would probably always be considered the second division compared to Open classes but handlers do not need to only take part in the ABC league. It would be entirely their choice and progression through the open classes would still be required in the normal way. Agility Training for a Trainer I hold small fun dog training classes with basic agility equipment. We now have full set of equipment and am look for extra tuition. I help rescued German pointers both short and wire haired and about to start with greyhound/lurcher rescue. We have one dog at a time from each rescue who needs social training. I'm sure the agility equipment would be ideal to help these dogs with other training problems, but I would like a little more guidance. My website is www.k9interaction.co.uk and I am in Hertfordshire. I am happy to travel. I am happy to pay a fee and as time goes by I will know how interested I am in either running my own dogs or instructing others. Witnesses to an accident at
Bretons Show, Hornchurch on 22 June 2008 The incident took place about 9.30am when two collies being exercised off lead by another competitor crashed into me which resulted in a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula and fractured metatarsal. I train at N. Cray, and whilst St John and the ambulance service were dealing with me, Chris and Chris Barrett kindly looked after my dogs, and several people commented to them that they had witnessed the incident, but, in all the drama, their details were not recorded. The injuries resulted in reduction of the dislocation that day, surgery to insert a plate and 6 screws the following day, seven weeks in plaster and three months off work, which as I am self employed has led me to seek compensation from the dogs owner who is luckily insured. To complete the paperwork to proceed, my solicitor now needs the details of these witnesses. It will mean filling in a witness statement form. If you saw the incident, or know anyone who did please contact me or my solicitor. Thanks. Blankets for rescue dogs Endangered Dogs Defence and Rescue are urgently in need of blankets to help see them through this winter. They were due to collect a large donation but the company has gone bust and vanished leaving them short. With the weather so bad and after a really bad year for the EDDR people they really need a little in their favour. Please take a look around and see if you have any spare blankets you can send them this year. They can't use duvets or pillows. Bullbreeds tend to eat those very quickly! Amanda, Eugene and Frank cripple themselves each year for dogs that without them, would be dead. They cannot rehome the majority so stay with EDDR for life. (05/12/08) Contact: If you can help please send any blankets to EDDR, P.O. Box 1544, London W7 2ZB |

Aluminium wanted for Valgrays
Funds Would folk be willing to save any of these items please including take away trays, food trays, containers, milk bottle tops, drink cans, some beer cans, aluminium foil etc. - in fact, anything that is aluminium. Please test cans with a magnet. If it sticks to can it's no good for us. There is a (tiny) symbol on aluminium cans. It is a circle with arrows on it and inside circle it says 'alum.' These are the ones we need. Cans that have a (tiny) triangular symbol with 'steel' written inside are not suitable either. Please wash thoroughly. A dishwasher will do it! Squash all items down as flat as possible, store them in a bag or box and then pass them to Val or Marian at agility shows or Shirley at obedience shows. One of our supporters is prepared to store everything. We need loads and loads all the time to make this viable. Please help. Contact: Ring Val on tel. 01883 624513 or email valgrays@hotmail.co.uk |

What to do with unwanted rosettes? I am trying to find an address that I had some time ago to send unwanted rosettes to. I lost Rilla Touch'n'Tell, aged 12 years old, back in March through a tumour. She was my Hearing Dog and a lovely agility dog as well. I missed her a lot but now I have moved on and will be getting another Hearing Dog very soon - and hopefully go back to agility again. I want to get rid of some of Rilla's old rosettes. Can anyone help me? Contact: Email Carol Roderick on c.j.roderick1@btinternet.com |
